May and June Membership Meetings

The two membership meetings we have held since the last newsletter were very well attended. The May meeting was held at the Canoe Club Wine Bar in Marblehead with assorted gourmet pizzas offered. The June meeting was held at 1812 Food and Spirits in Port Clinton where we indulged in a Mexican buffet taco bar. Hank Rengh gave an informative presentation on Marine Safety Requirements. I have since replaced my two fire extinguishers that I found out no longer met the Coast Guard requirements.

Kentucky Derby Day

We had a great turnout for the first NCYC Kentucky Derby Day on May 2nd. Bonnie Bernard organized and set up the event and got the race broadcast up and running on our large screen TV. Tom Holmes won the Derby Party Pool and was gracious in donating the funds back to the club. Carol Haley received recognition for the best Derby Day hat.

July Membership Meeting Saturday July 18th

Please join us for our July Membership Meeting. We will be getting together at Manny’s Sport Tavern and Grill in Sandusky at 5:00 pm. Address is 6201 Milan Rd, Sandusky, OH 44870. While the Club helps to subsidize the meal costs a charge of $10 per person is will be collected at the restaurant.

July 25th Open House

Our original plan was to hold an open house during the Coastal Marine Pig Roast. Even though that event has been cancelled, we will still open the Clubhouse to members, their guests and others who may have an interest in seeing our facility and possibly joining our yacht club. Date is Saturday July 25 from 11:30 to 1:30. Food and drinks will be provided.

August Meeting and Socials

The August Membership meeting is scheduled for Saturday August 8th. More information to follow.Plans are being finalized for holding either a Wine Tasting or a Clam Bake at the Clubhouse on Saturday August 23. More information will follow

Kelly’s Island Cruise

Seven boats joined the cruise on June 26-28 to Kelly’s Island Seaway Marina. Wind was light and from the Northeast so sail boaters joined the power boaters in motoring over to the island. Friday evening we enjoyed appetizers and desserts provided by members. Saturday, after breakfast, everyone got a chance to visit each other’s boats to check out various features and maybe come away with ideas for improvements. Overall, a great start to NCYC cruising in 2026.

August Cruise

A mid-week cruise has been set for Wednesday August 12-Friday August 14 at the Huron City Boat Basin. The docking rate is great. A flat fee of $40 per boat per night. Make your reservation directly with the Boat Basin by contacting 419-433-4848 or online with DOCKWA or via email at boatbasin@huronohio.us. We will be docked close to the Huron Yacht Club and as affiliate ILYA members we can enjoy access to their restaurant and bar. It would be great if you could let Bart Beal know that you have registered and plan to attend. Looking forward to another great get together.

Leadership Nominations and Elections

July and August are the months that our Club nominates and elects new leadership positions: the three Bridge Commodores (Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore) along with two Board Trustees. At present we do not have volunteers for Commodore or Rear Commodore. If you are interested in helping to grow our Club please contact Jim Haley at 614-226-2591 or Ike Kershaw at 614-270-3248 for more information. There are more than a few of us who are ready to assist.

Brent and Janeen Mussery, new member in April, from Port Clinton, docks at Coastal Marine, boat is a 22' Barletta Pontoon.

Clubhouse

A big shout out goes to Tom Holmes and his grandson for installing plumbing in the downstairs restroom and upstairs to the Clubroom for use when we install a kitchenette. Tom also donated a commercial toilet that is also now in place. The fully functional restroom is kept locked but is open to Club members. The key can be found up in the Clubroom attached to wooden block. Note that the Coastal Marine Lounge and Restroom facility is still available for our use.

Website

Lots of thanks to Cullen Demko who has taken over the management of the NCYC website (northcoastyc.com). We now have the ability to register and pay online for both new and renewing members. We have a calendar linked to the site and will be filling out the details soon. Information for transient docking at Coastal Marine has been included for visitors who may wish to dock near the Clubhouse. Our online presence is growing through our website and social media sites.
