Message from the Commodore
Welcome to the North Coast Yacht Club! As your Commodore, Jim Haley, it is my great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all members, visitors, and boating enthusiasts exploring our vibrant community. Founded in the 2023 by a visionary group of 10 individuals with over 60 years of combined yacht club experience, NCYC was born from a passion for creating a member-driven organization that prioritizes the best interests of our boating family. From our roots in cruising, racing, and social events to our commitment to education, safety, and fun on the water, we continue to thrive as a non-profit hub for sailors, divers, mechanics, and adventurers alike. Whether you're seeking certifications in navigation, engine expertise, or simply a place to share stories with fellow mariners, our club offers unparalleled opportunities to connect, learn, and explore the beautiful North Coast waters. We invite you to join us for our upcoming cruises, races, and gatherings—let's make lasting memories together. Fair winds and following seas!
Yours,
Jim Haley,
Commodore (PC IOBG)

ABOUT THE CLUB

Founded in 2024, The North Coast Yacht Club is dedicated to fostering camaraderie among sailing aficionados. Our club prides itself on creating a low-pressure and informal environment where members can share experiences and learn from one another.
The North Coast Yacht Club (NCYC) is led by a group of ten visionary founders, each designated as Past Commodores (PC), who collectively boast over 60 years of experience in yacht club membership, boating operations, and community engagement. The founders—Harvey Rickert (PC, IOBG), George Harizal (PC, IOBG), Hank Rengh (PC, IOBG), Russell Marcks (PC, IOBG), Mike Zofchak, (Cpt, PC, IOBG), Art Harden (PC), Don Petsch (PC), Jan Holmes (PC), Mike Petsch (PC), and Bo Schubert (PC)—have held key roles such as cruise directors, race chairs, and social coordinators in prior yacht clubs, with many also belonging to the prestigious International Order of the Blue Gavel (IOBG), an organization for active past commodores. Their expertise extends to advanced maritime credentials, including captains' licenses up to 200 tons, US Merchant Marine Officer and Master designations, US Coast Guard Master licenses for offshore work, navigational proficiency from Navy service, certifications for harbor tugs, salvage, towing, and diving operations, as well as skills in craftsman work, engine construction (including diesel mechanics), and even impromptu musical performances. This accomplished leadership team established the NCYC as a state-registered nonprofit to foster member-focused experiences, educational opportunities, and vibrant boating community events, ensuring the club's operations align with the best interests of its members and the broader maritime world.
